Open Space
What is Open Space?
Open Space is a dynamic and self-organizing part of the conference where you set the agenda. Every participant – child, teen, or adult – can propose a workshop, game, lecture, share a project, invite others to explore something meaningful together, or suggest any other creative format.
Open Space is about following your interests and discovering what matters to you. You write your idea on the board, choose a time and place, and see who wants to join. The people who come are the right ones.
It’s a powerful way to experience democratic learning in action—spontaneous, collaborative, and driven by trust and intrinsic motivation.
Come as you are. Offer what you love. Join what inspires you.
Principles of Open Space
The Principles of Open Space remind us how to think about uncertainty and surprises.
Right people
Whoever comes is the right people
Right time
Whenever it starts is the right time
Right place
Wherever it happens is the right place
Right outcome
Whatever happens is the only thing that could have happened
Acceptence of end
When it’s over it’s over
Law of 2 feet
In Open Space, the “Law of the 2 feet” says that “You, and only you, know when you are learning and contributing as much as you can.” It reminds us that “If you find yourself in a situation where you are neither learning or contributing, use your two feet to go somewhere you can learn and contribute more.”
